photonic materials
Based on the existing expertise in laser physics and optics, ultra optics is dedicated to the exploration of novel light sources and micro-and nano-optical systems. In addition to the continuous expansion of existing research fields, ultra optics sets new trends in the field of innovative photonic materials. To this end, ultra optics is currently establishing the new research area Photonic Materials.
Thus, ultra optics aims to establish, in addition to the currently dominant silicon-based optics, organic and inorganic carbon-based materials in optics/photonics, and thus realize new optical, optoelectronic and mechanical functions.
With research in carbon-based optics, the centre will enter an intensely ultra-risky area, which appears at the beginning of its developement, but is attributed to a high potential for innovation.
