Research project PhoNa wins the 2nd competition " Excellence-research and innovation in Eastern Germany"
On May, 18th, the project "Photonics in Nanomaterials" (PhoNa) was selected in the 2nd competition for "Excellence research and innovation in Eastern Germany" as one of 11 outstanding projects that are granted a funding of 10 million Euro by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
In the near future photonic nanomaterials will change the world of optics and photonics in a similar way as the introduction of silicon-based technology lead to a breakthrough in microelectronics in the last century. The investigation of the application and production of photonic nanomaterials, one of the cornerstones of the PhoNa project, is fundamental for future technologies. PhoNa will build bridges between macro-, micro- and nanooptics. But PhoNa is more: it combines the high-level of research and experience of the Abbe School of Photonics, the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Optics and Precision Technology, the Institute of Photonic Technologies, the Research Center Jülich, the Max-Plack-Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Carl Zeiss Jena AG, Jenoptik AG and LINOS-QIOPTIQ Photonics GmbH.
